My name is Bryan Burkholder, and I am a 19 year old Computer Engineering student at Ohio Northern University. I have had an acute interest in computers and technology since I was about 9, starting with my first computer, an old (at the time, even) Windows 3.1 machine. Since then, I have managed to run almost every Windows operating system at some point and time, with the notable exception of Windows ME. I also have had the opportunity of having different forms of Linux for my desktop operating system, including OpenSuse and Ubuntu.
In the last 10 years I have had the opportunity to work with many different applications and learn an incredible amount about how computers function. At age 15 I wrote my first computer application, Shutdown Delay, which functioned as a simple sleep timer with a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Since then I have written over 20 different applications and scripts, in languages such as C++, Java, VB.net and Javascript. Most of these programs were for personal or commercial use, but I have released several online, and they can be found on the portfolio and download pages.
I have had several notable accomplishments related to my beginning career as a Computer Engineer. The first notable accomplishment came at age 17, when I was hired to work as an IT administrator for a small company (~20 computers). Since 2007 I have successfully managed to keep their computers and website functioning smoothly, as well as deploy a major system-wide upgrade. Shortly after I turned 18 I was contacted by Google's Recruiting Department and was asked about my interest in interviewing for a job opportunity in Europe. At age 19 my personal website has received close to 400,000 hits, and my software downloads have exceeded 80,000.
Currently I am working toward my Bachelor's degree, and have plans to start working on my Master's as soon as I graduate. As I learn more about computer systems, I anticipate being able to determine the exact feild I wish to pursue my Master's in, as the field of Computer Engineering is still quite diversified relating to potential careers.
